Very soon when you upgrade Windows 10, you will be exposed to Microsoft’s rewards system front and center. Microsoft first launched the program under Bing rewards (limited to the US only) a few years ago. Later rebranded to Microsoft rewards as it expands across product lines on where you can collect reward points from. Rewards program turns using Windows and Microsoft’s other product into gamification where you can collect points if you’ve completed a certain action. The points can later be redeemed on various Microsoft products including Xbox games etc. Currently, if you’ve collected 5200 points, you can redeem a $5 Xbox Gift Card.

The most recent Windows 10 dev channel build updated the Settings where it added a new badge for Rewards into the Settings app. Currently, Microsoft Rewards already opened up to a wider audience, you can check if your region is included, here.

It’s interesting to see how Microsoft is trying to influence it’s product and by “paying” users to use it’s less popular products like Bing, Edge etc. in order to gain market share. After all, this is a “game” of usage and user base. If you are fully buy-in to Microsoft’s product then this program might be just perfect for you, as each day every search you made on Bing, every tab you opened in Edge will gain you points. For others, consider this as an informative session on how tech companies are trying to influence your daily life.
