I was installing Windows 7 to my new build machine, which I just got it yesterday. Didn’t realize my wireless adapter only works on 32 bit Windows 7, so initially I already had my Windows 7 64bit Professional Installed and now I have to reinstall the 32 bit Windows 7. So the first thing I went to check was typing “winver”, thought it will show me if I’m running 32 bit or 64 bit Windows, but in fact it doesn’t show it. Only shows you the version and build of your Windows 7.
So basically there are many ways you can check and see if your system is running 64 bit or 32 bit.
The most common method is by going to System either type “System” in the start menu or go to Control Panel\System and Security\System
Another way is by going to “System Information” type it in your start menu.
This will gives you a more comprehensive information of your system. Of course if you are just interested in knowing if you are running 64 bit or 32 bit, the first way is easier.
Also usually if you are running Windows 7 in 64 bit, you will notice in your normal “Program Files” location there are 2 directories for it, the additional one will be called “Program Files (x86)” as most of your 32 bit software will go under there by default.
