How To Quickly Find Out if Your PC is Ready to Use Hyper-V

Hyper-V virtualization is now included in Pro and Enterprise of Windows 10, but only if your processor supports a few advanced virtualization features. Most of the modern motherboards have these features included but disabled by default. So what’s the easiest and fastest way to find out if your PC is ready for the Hyper-V to rock without booting into BIOS?

All you need is to open up the System Information Utility. Press Win + R to bring up the Run dialog box, type “msinfo32” in the box and hit Enter.

In System Summary section, scroll to the very end and look for the four items that begin with Hyper-V.

If you see a Yes next to all of them, congratulations, you are ready to enable, configure, and use Hyper-V.

If you see a No next to Virtualization Enabled in Firmware, you will have to boot into BIOS and turn on Virtualization Technology. Depending on the version of BIOS you are running, you may need to poke around the settings to find it.

If you see No to other items, sorry, you won’t be able to run Hyper-V. Time to upgrade.

If you don’t see these four items listed there but do see a line like below instead, that means you are already running virtualization software, or you are currently working in a VM, regardless of which virtualization software you are using.

A hypervisor has been detected. Features required for Hyper-V will not be displayed.

Lastly, when everything’s ready, let’s enable, configure, and use Hyper-V in your Windows 10 system.
