It seems only yesterday that I’ve just upgraded all my work computers from Windows 7 to Windows 10 1903 build. And believe it or not, it becomes an unsupported history in about 2 weeks of time.
Why?
And that’s because, according to the new Windows 10 life of cycle rule by Microsoft, Windows 10 Pro and Home editions only has 18 months of service timeline from the release date. 1903 build was released in May 2019, so its end-of-life day would be 18 months from that day, falls right on Dec 8, 2020.
The effected editions of Windows include:
- Windows 10 Home, version 1903
- Windows 10 Pro, version 1903
- Windows 10 Pro Education, version 1903
- Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, version 1903
- Windows 10 Enterprise, version 1903
- Windows 10 Education, version 1903
- Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, version 1903
They will no longer receive security updates after the deadline, Dec 8, 2020. It’s recommended that the end users should always install the latest version before the current version reaches the end of servicing to remain supported by Microsoft, mostly just their security patches.
Upgrading to 1909 will be a really quick process but it only gives you 6 more months of support. It seems that upgrading to the latest version makes more sense as it provides the longest servicing window.
The latest released stable version is Version 20H2, if you are not in Windows Inside cycle.
